Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Currently a first year apprentice at college 5 days a week. We are doing mechatronics so we do a variety at college. It is really enjoyable and most classes are interesting and informative.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many skills. These skills being electrical installation, welding, machining and also further deleveloped my knowledge of physics and mechanical and electrical principles

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well structured and organised on Gatwick’s behalf. However the college is less organised. My apprenticeship manager does listen to any complaints that we have about the college and he has dealt with every one of them.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot of support! My apprenticeship manager visits us frequently to ask us how it’s going and for a general chat. He’s very supportive and I feel as if I can ask or speak to him about any problems going on.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We do get support from a lot of lecturers. Some however we do not.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it will help us to perform better in our role based on the knowledge we have gained. However, some classes haven’t gone to smooth based on teachers so that knowledge may not help us to much in our role in our workplace.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I’m not sure how many extra curricular activities such as sports teams so I can’t comment on that. But each year as apprentice we get to go the Lake District for a week all together which is really cool.

It’s a great place to work. You get loads of support from your work colleagues. It is a well structured programme which helps lead you to a bright future.
