Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Ticket-based system with requests and incidents. You pick up tasks as you go and complete them. Mini projects involved as well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme as it is something I never got taught in school and you get a lot of 1-2-1 support within your team to help you learn and complete tasks you've never done before.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
The role allows you to learn new technical skills and build on your communication skills as you will be interacting with a variety of people across the business in various teams.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It's a lot more flexible than I initially thought. Typically on a technology apprenticeship, you may rotate in different teams within your department, so the coursework will align to whichever team you decide to go in. You also have access to Sky Learn with a huge variety of free courses, such CompTIA courses.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have regular catch-ups with my manager which gives me the opportunity to bring up any concerns I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
You have monthly catch ups with your training provider to go over each unit of coursework you are being assigned. This gives you a good opportunity to bring up any concerns you have surrounding your coursework.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
A lot of it in the start of your apprenticeship is mandatory coursework units, which aren't necessarily relevant to your specific job role. I think about 4 months in is when we had the opportunity to choose relevant coursework units to our jobs.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are loads of networks at Sky that you can get involved in, as well as volunteering. In addition, you get opportunities to get involved with Early Careers events, such as going to local schools to promote the programmes and help out with new apprentices coming up.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Sky to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The flexibility is a main thing, you get to work from home 3 days a week which can actually save you a lot of time in terms of travelling into the office. You also have full access to all the course materials available on Sky Learn for free which can help further your career progression even after completing your apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sky?
Be yourself in the interviews and relax. Know roughly what sort of jobs interest you, this will help you out when choosing your rotations.
