Summer Intern Review

In the role i was generally working in the business, with other interns. we had to look at the accounts of the client we were working on, to understand their business better and say that the financial statements showed a 'true and fair' view of the business being looked at. to do this i was usually working to gain evidence that the numbers seen were accurate. i needed to speak to people to gain an understanding to do this.

lots of responsibility on my placement internship. from the start i was given some large and important testing areas to get involved in. i was suprised as i though my role might be more procedural, what i was warned by friends the 'tea making' role as it were. but no it was all go and i was given some big tasks to do, alongside my other interns. i benefitted a lot from this level of responsibility

i would say i have developed my existing skills more than learnt new ones. but as my first taste of working in a business for a big firm, i have learnt what it is like to work for a big company, in particular here a 'big four' accounting and consulting firm, which has always been a goal of mine since i started my university course. i would say it was useful doing the placement to help build these skills of mine

i had some support and guidance. i was usually left to get on with my work and complete it over a reasonable timeframe. luckily i was told what to do and how to do it, as the testing needed isnt intuitive and does take some understanding. but i was given enough information to do the job and i had a buddy support who i spoke with often and who was always there for help when called on

EY is great for culture and atmosphere during my placement.it is difficult under the circumstances to gain a deep level of insight in this area. mostly because the placement is quite short (I think typical for the industry) so the focus is usually learning and doing the job. but there was lots of time allocated to fun stuff and learning, and understanding what the future would be like if i progress further at EY

the placement was really good and worthwhile. i had chance to learn a lot and complete work which is vital to be completed. i was not given work for the intern, as it were - i was asked to complete important testing which made it through to the audit outcome. the level of responsibility was a main reason why i enjoyed the placement at ey and am keen to return after my university studies to continue on
