Women's Immersion Programme Review

First few days were introductions to the firm, presentations from partners etc and the basics of what an investment bank does. Also training provided on Investment Banking and Global Markets - introduction to core basic concepts. Proceeding this we were allocated a specific desk within our division and had to make a project. We were encouraged to network with other members of the firm and go for coffee chats in order to make more connections.

Multiple presentations were given by Managing Directors within the firm. However, jargon was not used and information was presented in a way which was easy to understand.

Definitely! Learned some key excel shortcuts which were really helpful . Also, most of what I have learned is around conducting myself within that environment and having the confidence needed to approach people.

Although the people seemed very nice the hours that are expected are quite long, especially for analysts. It varied throughout the different desks but M&A and GII work for 14 hours or more per day. Was also quite elitist in terms of a lack of people from more underpriviliged backgrounds. It was also noticeable that certain segments had a significant lack of women, especially in roles of management.

I enjoyed the first few days of the insight but I was not prepared for the difficult environment. I think I was unlucky with my desk placement but my manager and buddy did not really allocated much time to me and seemed quite unbothered by the fact that I was present.
