Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role is a busy yet rewarding one. I will arrive at work set up my surgery and the decontamination room. I will ensure the medical emergency equipment is charged and ready for use. I will offer chairside assistance and ensure my instruments and surgery and clean/sterile
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme was good and I felt I learned a lot from it. I also feel the actual hands on work was invaluable too. I did feel that due to Covid I didn’t have the best support from aspirations but obviously Covid affected this.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned about patient management and medical emergencies. I feel my experience taught me a lot about the NHS and how it works

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel there was good structure and my practice gave us study days which was very helpful. I do feel at times I had to wait around for workbooks and towards the end had to fill in gaps that were missed during the course
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer offered a lot of support. We had study days and lots of help. There were a lot of trainees when I started too so we could all help one another.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider offered a lot of support towards the end. In the beginning it was hard because the trainers kept leaving. My last assessor was fabulous and got me through
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the training sometimes was very by the book which does not necessarily match up with real life experience in practice with dentists and it’s very important to see both aspects and know how things should be getting done. For example using silicone putty for 2nd denture imps.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No. We have team building days and some of the girls and I often walk our dogs together but there is no official activities

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aspiration Training to a friend?
Yes
Why?
My experience in the end was great once I had a proper assesor. I also have noticed an improvement for the new trainees
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aspiration Training?
I’d say to make sure you keep regular contact with assessor and ensure that you keep up with your work.
