Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I cleanse client data into readable formats so that audit teams can use the data to gain important insights. I also coach new apprentices with data cleansing, manipulating and presenting skills. In order to present the correct insights from the data i must communicate with audit teams and clients regularly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have worked in multiple teams throughout my apprenticeship. Now i am in the solution developer team I am the happiest since I joined. I really challenge myself with building brand new projects and I get a great sense of achievement upon completion. The studying is also insightful for the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have massively developed my Alteryx skills for data cleansing, I can now cleanse extremely complex datasets into cleansed data. Additionally, I have grown in confidence in my ability to to talk to clients, present my work and challenge opinions when necessary. I am also more efficient in my work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Now there is a very clear structure for what apprentices will be doing during each year of the apprenticeship. It is constantly clarified so that there is no uncertainty. Additionally, apprentices are given a choice in their third and fourth year so that there is a lot of variety to experiences.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my colleagues at EY. During my work everyday I always receive support when I am struggling. EY also provide 20% off the job time to complete the apprenticeship and structure the course around quieter periods of work which helps to prevent being overwhelmed and stressed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

BPP provide a decent amount of support during the lectures. They also allow for formative drafts to be submitted so that the tutor can provide feedback for your final assessment. The skills coach has regular catch ups to ensure you are performing well and feeling well. However, outside of lessons there is not regular support available.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Some of the modules directly relate to my job role and by taking them I am reconfirming my skills. Other modules are brand new but will be great skills to go back to my job role with such as coding languages. There are a few modules that it is more difficult to relate to.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are lots of extra curricular activities at EY. Firstly there are communities that have guest speakers and put on events such as the Womens Network. Locally to my office there are lots of sports activities including football, Rock climbing and Badminton. These occur regularly and are open to all.

Why?
EY has been a great place to start my career. By doing an apprenticeship instead of going to university I have gained lots of skills in the workplace that I couldn't get in a university. I now have over 3 years worth of experience at a Big 4 firm.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Do lots of research before your interview. EY has lots of opportunities to offer but its important to find the one that best suits you as you will be spending a lot of your time doing it. Ask as many questions both during the interview and prior to employees on Linkedin or through other networking channels.
