Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work on the audit of a large banking client, primarily auditing the consolidations and disclosures processes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Whilst the people I have met on the programme have made my experience good, the work itself and the lack of a work-life balance in some parts of the year have made the programme less enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed both soft and technical skills throughout my time at EY, and this has aided with my personal and professional growth.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Programme is well structured, however more consideration needs to be given to the equality of experiences offered to trainees. I have been on one client looking at one area for the entire time whilst others have had a larger breadth of experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Employer offers training weeks every few months but day to day the main focus is to complete the work rather than to help develop me professionally and technically.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some content taught by my training provider isn't directly applicable to my day to day role however a general understanding of the financial system and accounting does help.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
No
Why?
There is no continuity regarding the day to day experience offered to trainees. This means that some may have better experiences with good teams that focus on their development, whilst others do not.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
make sure you do a lot of research surrounding the role you'd like to apply for - most people apply for assurance because it is the largest part of the firm, however it is worth looking into consulting/tax service lines too!
