Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Trainee accountant - at the moment I'm working on testing of fixed assets. there's some substantive testing, some controls testing, some more "admin" work, and some time I have to do stock counts for other clients
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It's been hard, but I enjoy it. the college side has been quite rough though. i was in college for 2 months before starting the job, and i didn't find that very good at all. hard to know what youre doing/who youre working for when you havent met anyone there yet. since then, in work it's been great though.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yeah loads. I haven't got any background in finance so it's all been learning basically. Lots of excel, understanding finance terminology, communication with senior management of my client, communication with seniors in the job. submitting requests for information for senior management etc

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
very well - i book my own exams so it's flexible around me, could be more flexible though, don't like that we cant choose when we're in college and when we're not in college
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
loads - they've given us it equipment, work from home equipment, the only annoying thing is my programme guide thingy hasn't reached out to us yet apart from putting us in a teams channel
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
loads of support - they've answered all my questions promptly, been helpful in general. i dont like the working from home aspect of it, but then that's not my style i know some people who love that
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
not very much to be honest - at least so far. only helpful to see some terminology, as well as knowledge of general ledgers, trial balances, profit and loss' and balance sheets. but we learn about sooo much more than that
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes. I'm in the christian community, badminton community and have more informal groups with my friends

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
it's great to work at so far. I havent done a "busy season" so far yet so I may be more hesitant in a few months time but so far they're a great company and I've learned so much. it's also the perfect name to put on your cv for a first job out of uni
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
be prepared to know absolutely nothing! it can be quite demoralising but embrace it and ask as many questions as you can - even if your senior cant give you an answer then that's helping them understand as it gives them an opportunity to find out. also get friendly with your college class as they'll be along side you in work as well
