Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I carry out audit-related tasks as assigned and advised on by a Senior Associate or Manager. The tasks can be quite varied. I work primarily with Energy clients. I also have other responsibilities, such as occasionally attending client premises to observe them counting their stock/inventory.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme as I have the opportunity to try to tailor my experience to get the most out of it. I am given access to many tools to advance my personal and professional development, and the firm also invests significantly in our health and wellbeing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes. I am developing various skills, including Excel skills, as well as completing my accounting qualifications which includes studying towards and developing knowledge of diverse subjects such as Business, Taxation and Assurance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is quite well-structured given my employer is a very large organisation and has many people working towards ensuring that everything occurs smoothly. Of course the structure and organisation can be improved further, such as by providing clearer information about the programme structure before we started, but it is very good overall.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
They provide a lot of support in the form of a wellbeing allowance, feedback opportunities, potential travel opportunities, coaching etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
They provide study leave, they pay for very good quality teaching, they pay for the exams, and they ensure we have plenty of question practice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps me gain further knowledge and apply myself better. Of course further improvements in this would largely fall under the remit of the accounting body rather than the employer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, including sports teams and faith-based networks.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The organisation is very large and diverse. Your experience is what you make of it. There is the potential for great development with hard work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Just apply and take the opportunity to get to know the firm and whether you are a good fit for the firm and whether the firm is a good fit for you.
