Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the virtual internship and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The programme was structured across two days with various activities and sessions throughout. The different sections of the day focused on skills and competency development, a group debate task, a teaching episode as well as feedback provided on the teaching practice. Current and previous members of the Teach First team also spoke extensively about their experiences as trainees and the Teach First community.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The Taster Programme confirmed my desire to apply to the Training Programme. I am even more keen on becoming a trainee teacher and pursuing the first steps of my career with Teach First. I would definitely recommend the Taster Programme to anyone considering teaching, or not considering teaching, as a potential career choice!

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The development sessions facilitate a great deal of self-reflection on employability skills and competencies. We were able to keep a tracker of our personal competencies and monitor our individual progress.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The inclusivity and diversity encouraged by Teach First is beyond admirable. Hearing from the various Affinity Groups and the importance of the vast Teach First Ambassador network is very reassuring and even inspiring to those looking to join as trainees.

To what extent did you enjoy the virtual internship?
I greatly enjoyed the Taster Programme and I felt it was a fantastic opportunity to “meet” Teach First Team members. I believe I am better acquainted with the ethos and the mission behind Teach First’s goals which is invaluable for aspiring teachers like myself.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teach First
This may be one of the most significant decisions of your life, but it is one you will not regret. Teach First welcomes Taster applicants and trainees with open arms and with a drive for inclusivity and diversity. This is my step towards a lifetime career in teaching, and I am more than glad to have begun with Teach First.
