I perform audits and help on other projects, working on various different companies and in different industries. The tasks also vary and can be from some simple work on cash then could be checking physical assets, or their share capital to ensure everything is correct and can be deemed accurate.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed meeting new people and developing new skills. I have been able to work towards a highly coveted qualification as well as earn a salary which i consider an amazing benefit of it. There is a lot of support and it has always been greatly appreciated by me.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt several new scores including the basics of accounting, understanding the audit process and also how to work efficiently and effectively with people in a collaborative sense. I think this role has helped me learn a huge amount about how other industries and how the audit industry works.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is a very well put together programme which has exams spread over the years meaning you can learn about accounting as well as learn the audit process throughout. There is a good balance between studying and working/ learning on the job which I have found very helpful to me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive plenty of support, I am constantly asked how I am doing and also constantly told I can always ask for further help, action plans to improve and also get feedback from every project showing what went well, what I can improve on and what I should now do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive plenty with lots of time as study leave to use for revising and am constantly reminded about the support I can have or any access arrangements to help me focus and study as well as for the actual exams themselves. I can then get further support internally.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has helped me learn more about the statements I am expected to read analyse and understand. It also helps prepare me for different ways to audit and query the clients regarding. Without the qualification I think I would struggle to understand tax items significantly and also other accounting treatments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a charity committee, social committee and welfare one as well. A five a side football team, fantasy football league, and several socials a year. Christmas parties, bowling, rock climbing, cocktail making, go karting and also many more. Plenty of suggestions are made and listened to, so new ones do occur.

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Lots of support, good salary, good qualification, good social events and supportive people. I think you should choose this job if you think you would enjoy accounting and learn about all these audit processes. Without an interest in accounting the job may not be ideal, so I think you need one.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Have an interest in accounting, and also working on several industries. It can be hard work but is rewarding if you put the effort in. BDO is more relaxed than other audit companies so may be preferential compared to the big four from what I have heard from people from both.
