Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis for a year 1 apprentice, I start work at 8am and finish at 4.30/5pm and have an early finish on a Friday. We complete hands on skills in the workshop Tuesday - Friday along with more classroom work on a Monday. It is very enjoyable.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
In the short time of the apprenticeship I have completed, I found that I have really enjoy my programme because it challenges me to improve my skills and helps to further develop my knowledge with using a hands on approach. This is beneficial for me and I am a hands on learner.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills such as: learning to weld MMA (manual metal arc), learning how to operate and how a PLC functions and controls other components, learning how pneumatic circuits function and how to control them, along with health and safety how to work safely without putting yourself or others at risk.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I find that the apprenticeship is organised regarding the workshop based learning as you have deadlines to meet as you will be moving onto a new topic, this makes it important that you keep up with the work set and do not lose focus. We tend to have 4 weeks of each topic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
In the time I have worked here I find the support I receive from my employer is fantastic and I could not ask for any more support. They take every situation into consideration and support you. I could not complain about the support they offer. I would highly recommend working for the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I find that the training providers offer a good amount of support when working towards my qualifications. They also take into consideration learning disabilities when reading and helping with work. The tutors also adapt their teaching style to help students that are struggling to adapt to the new work or questions that they find hard to understand.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The training I receive from my training provider will help me greatly when working in my final role, this is because of the skills you learn in the workshop. They teach you how to work safely within the workplace. The qualifications I receive are a reflection of the skills I have learnt during my apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are several activities of which we can join around work, such as a mini football team and a netball team. As a year, we have started our own football club for exclusively our year group. This is good for team building and gives us all a common ground helping to build relationships.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because they are a fantastic employer and offer a fantastic apprenticeship. As a mature apprentice, I was working in production for several years and found my calling as a machine controller to work in maintenance. It was a passion I found later in life. Because of this, I did not have the relevant qualifications to work within the maintenance team. The company hired me as a mature apprentice. this is fantastic because of life commitments such as kids or a mortgage. and now I will get the required qualifications and get my dream role as a maintenance technician.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
I would tell someone to be themselves. If you are unsuccessful in your first or second application, I would advise you to apply again after receiving feedback and working on yourself. I would advise applicants to keep an open mind and support others during the application process. You should always be yourself.
