Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role as a first year apprentice involves being trained in a workshop in different units, This includes Welding, Fluid Dynamics, Mechanical, Hand fitting, Milling and Turning, Electronics, PLC, and Electrical. I also spend one day a week doing more theoretic work in classrooms, including Mathmatics, Mechanical Principles, and Communications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the practical work. It is easy to relate what is done in the workshop to real world scenarios and the skill are useful in day to day life. The theory work is less exciting but in not overly dull.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many skill. All practical work that I have done has been new content. Most of the theory has also been new.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The individual elements of the apprenticeship is well organised but there is a large disconnect between them and they often interfere with each other.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
My employer conducts regular progress reviews and has an interest in our progress but most of the support is from the training provider not the employer.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My employer conducts regular progress reviews and has an interest in our progress but most of the support is from the training provider not the employer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
There are very few links between the qualification and the job role. The qualification is far more generalised and I feel it required knowledge that is not used in the job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is a group of apprentices that play a weekly football game.

Yes
Why?
It provides a comprehensive education with good pay and a broad spectrum of different oppurtunities after the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
I would say that the most important thing is that you must show an interest in engineering and that you enjoy the hands on work.
