Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

a mixture of planned and reactive engineering tasks to aid with breakdowns, prevent future failures, carry out repair work, inspections and testing. all areas of the site are covered in the role from outdoor waste water facilities, production equipment, packing machines, lighting, and robotics for the palletizing equipment on site
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i enjoyed it thoroughly, despite the interruption of covid and lockdowns. but despite this the social side and making friends in college and in the workplace made for a enjoyable time. the work load was well balanced and was not much stress involved which makes enjoying what you are doing alot easier

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i went into my apprenticeship with a basic level of knowledge towards engineering. completing the first year which was a mix of practical work in electrical and mechanical workshops, along side the first year of the level 3 btec really enhanced my fundamental knowledge towards engineering as a whole category

How well organised/structured is your programme?

first year was very well mapped out with half terms tying into work related things. the month back on site was done well by pepsico giving us an insight to different engineering roles on site, and waterside managed the best they could when considering the covid situation regarding college timetables
How much support do you receive from your employer?

my employer helped me along the way through the 4 years, giving me any time needed to meet collage deadlines, sending my on relevant courses and placements to bolster my knowledge. they also attended all the events and presentations put on by the college which shows good support and interest in my progress
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

again, first uear was brilliant as we spent 5 days a week with the college they helped us along the way though the first year of btec. second year was pretty similar in terms of support but with covid heavily effecting the later end of the year and the year after that it wasnt as good as previous but through no fault of their own
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

i feel like some of the units ive learned through the 4 years have been fundamental to my current role and have been very beneficial. on the other hand some have been almost completely useless and have no relevance to my role at work, i still learned in these units but not for my job role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there is not as such but we often organised football games and mini inter shift tournaments at the skelmersdale site. on shift too there are quiz rounds which run regularly with prizes for winning teams. team days are run yearly at dw stadium to show company and site progression and targets

Yes
Why?
it is a friendly and organized place to work, with a manageable workload and lots of career progression paths to take. the staff are friendly and supportive if you are ever in need of help or assistance. training is widely available and the shift pattern is planned so can be easily worked around for planning
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PepsiCo?
be yourself and be positive and come in with a good attitude because if you put alot of effort in you will see the rewards. show a willingness to learn and progress and be enthusiastic with your work. learn good practices for food safety and other basic factory skills and behaviours
