I come in for monthly meetings with my tutor and she helps me though the theory side of beauty therapy. She sets me work to help me better understand the reasoning behind why we do particular things in waxing or facials. This helps not only me but my employer too as she gets to go back to when she was learning and help her refresh her memory in order to show me and help me better understand the course.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my course quite a lot as it’s helping me set myself up for the future and what I want to do with my career when I’m finished. I enjoy it even more to think it will help people feel better and think better about themselves once their treatment is done as it makes you feel like you helped someone bring themselves back.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

While learning on my course I have learnt how to be professional in a professional setting, how to create a professional setting and that the lights and colours of rooms play into the atmosphere you want to create for your clients. For example, in a massage room you would want a dark and calming environment so you would have hardly anything on the walls, one simple colour on the walls and relaxing music playing at a medium volume.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My course is so organised. I know where I need to be at what point as there is a schedule me and my employer follow to keep on track with my work. This also helps me stay on top of my work and also helps me to get ahead of the schedule to keep myself busy and learning new thing to understand what my tutor tells me as I get a better understanding of the subject she is telling me about.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer helps me understand everything from a different perspective as she learnt things differently when she was in school so she will teach me a way that not many people would think as she understands that I get overwhelmed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

She helps me so much. She offers me extra support and is very patient with me and is always helpful. Especially when I don’t quite understand something she will willingly tell me to do more research, but will also go over the parts I don’t understand with me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My training programme has videos and lots of worksheets to help me as I fill the papers out and I also get a in depth explanation from the video of the particular parts of the course I need to get my head around. It’s also very organised and makes it very easy to find everything I need to help me pass that part of my course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

In the salon somedays, we have model days and have clients come in to either learn about a particular product or come in for particular treatment by me as a therapist and have money off of the price. These days help me prepare for the job as I have to be professional and have a right learning attitude.

Paragon has helped me with the development and process of becoming and building the person clients come to today. Without their help, nothing would have been possible.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Paragon Skills?
Have a positive attitude going into it and apply for something you actually want to do and will eventually want to carry on doing in the future as this makes your experience so much better as you feel like you are working towards something that matters to you personally as you want to go on in life and do this.
