Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an audit trainee, I work mostly on lower risk areas of financial statements ( PPE, payroll). I tick lots of samples and request samples too. I communicate with audited entities about information that we require.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the job a lot, however I struggled when starting as I was only a school leaver therefore the jump from school was quite big. I like doing audit, however some teams are difficult to get on with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots about audit and accounting. I have also learnt lots about Excel.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very organised and structured with all my exams and study time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Lots of support is received from BDO during my apprenticeship including my people manager.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lots of support is gained from BPP including a thorough 6 step achievement ladder that will make sure you are successful in your exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Doing the exams has made me understand my job a lot more clearly. I did not know anything about accounting before BPP training, therefore it was a great help.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a lot of activities to get involved in within BDO, however as I live quite far away from Birmingham, I cannot attend as I have to catch the train home and I also have extra-curricular clubs outside of work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great pathway to chartered accountancy without the debt of uni. You also get paid which is amazing as a 19 year old.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Be yourself and be confident. Always ask questions and be positive. Try not to sit in silence and create small talk with other applicants or the BDO careers people.
