Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Responsible for ensuring the maximum availability and correct functioning of Sky's Broadband, Talk and Mobile Provisioning platform. Daily work involves analysing reported faults and issues, and providing solutions, fixing the issues or reporting bugs and defects to our Software Developers. We have to learn a set of skills and complex tools that allow us to examine and possibly fix the data that the software handles.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

This programme has been enjoyable as it is very different to any work i had done before and its in the IT sector which is something i had wanted to do for a while so it has been nice to learn about all these new processes and ways to analyse data whilst working alongside lovely people.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of technological skills such as a core foundation of backend / frontend coding, i have also developed my SQL / Database work and ive also developed my skills for using applications such as splunk to help find the information i need.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is fairly well structured, we have our apprenticeship training days 3 times each month and then we can dedicate 6 hours a week to our apprentice if we need to catch up on any work or catch up with our training coaches.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have monthly meetings where we go over things we have been learning / things we have struggled on and then talk about ways we can help improve on that area for next time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lots of support, they are always available to chat if you need to ask them any questions or if you are stuck on a task they set you. They also give really good feedback on how to improve your work and what parts could be included to get me a better grade etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am not at the stage yet where i have progressed enough in my apprenticeship to a stage that might help me in my job role, these first training sessions have all been about very general IT systems / courses.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have a bi-weekly activity where we go and play football for an hour at the local astro pitches which is nice to get to know other people in the company that dont necessarily work in my specific department.

Why?
It is a great company to grow and gain a vast amount of knowledge on the tech industry and all the teams that work in cohesion to make sure broadband, mobile and talk services are running efficiently and to the best of its ability
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sky?
Always ask questions, the more you ask the better your understanding of the business will be and it will help you feel more comfortable talking to other departments
