Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am currently working with the services associates team, they assist the shift team and are currently working on backup consoles and backup 999 routers to ensure service is available and they are working. We need to report the incidents on sky site and get engineers out to fix them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy it very much, there is a good level of interaction with other colleagues and everyone is super friendly and I can reach out and ask about things I am unsure about. I'm not micro managed and so am able to use the time how I wish ensuring everything is done.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes I have learnt a lot about excel and picked up new excel skills. I have also learnt about consoles and 999 backup routers and how to configure them and how to troubleshoot them as well as check if they are working through different tests. I learnt lots about networks in general as well as how Sky structure is set and how this helps.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My program is well structured with a trainer helping and telling me what I need to do and work on in my portfolios. I get a day once a week to do all the work for my apprenticeship and can request extra time if needed. I also have training days with training provides 2 or 3 days every month.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good amount of support, there are lots of different websites and things I can visit for different types of support. I also have my manager who helps me out with anything and we have meetings regularly to catch up and see how things are going. I can always ask him for things when I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support as I get guidance on my portfolios and I know which targets I need to hit and what I need to do as it is explained well by my training provider. I am also given lessons 2 or 3 times a day on different topic about networks which enables me to increase my understanding.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It helps me by giving me an understanding of things I am working with. It gives me an overall understanding of network engineering. However as tasks within Sky can be specific it may not always relate but knowledge does give an over view of networks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, we have social events that take place for apprentices and during festivals and celebrations there is always something going on. We have Sky cares were we are able to volunteer and help out. We also have different groups organisations such as women in tech, multiculturalism, and many other groups you can be apart of, and they general do events which you can attend. However I feel most things are focused for the main campus and our office in Brick Lane things can be limited.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Sky to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel it is a good company and allows you to gain the qualifications, you need, with friendly staff and so many other avenues to explore. It is a very good opportunity to get good experience with a good pay too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sky?
Be yourself, look at what Sky is looking for and see how you have done these things in your day to day. Be confident but approachable. Research about Sky about what you like and dislike your strengths and weaknesses. Not all examples have to be work related they can be based on anything, so have a range of examples when showing you have specific skill. Show you are passionate!!
