Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work with the Cyber Remediation team, understanding and analyzing cyber risks which have been identified by Red team tests and Cyber Risk Assessments. Once an assessment has been completed I take each finding and track the remediation with the action owner. I ensure that Operation Risk issues are opened when necessary
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
UBS have created a great culture among colleagues and the apprenticeship network. UBS ensures that the personal development of its employees is at the heart of the company with many developmental experiences being offered throughout my time both on and off program. UBS encourages many different social events to promote networking.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since working at UBS I have developed key skills which I will use across my career. I have learnt how the business works and how to communicate with different stakeholders across the firm. More importantly I have developed organizational skills which allow me to prioritize work according to risk levels. In addition to this, I have got to use many different tools becoming an SME in many new pieces of software.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Although UBS have been great at supporting me throughout my program, my training provider has caused many issues. I have had to reach out on multiple occasions to request more learning material and clarification on actions. Courses provided are disorganized and information provided seems to change based on who you are talking to
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is great at providing any assistance they can. All my colleagues are looking to support me and provide help where they can - not just my direct line management. I have regular catch ups with both the junior talent team and my line manager to discuss my personal development
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My learning provider has been inconsistent throughout my apprenticeship and the pass requirements are constantly changing. It appears as if no one actually knows how to get us to pass and they are not providing confidence in their ability to support me. I had one good learning mentor during my time with firebrand and unfortunately they left.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel as if the qualification does match my role, however there is a lot of aspects that do not. As the apprenticeship is so broad, I have had to work in many different teams to meet the requirements which means I have not been able to fine tune my stills and specialize in any given area.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
UBS offers many different clubs that I can get involved in, to name a few there is football, netball, badminton, choir and Spanish Club. There is also a number of frequent networking events organised on a functional level and regional level. These are ran throughout the year so there is always an activity available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
UBS has a great culture which really allows me to develop myself professionally and personally. UBS feels like a community where everyone actually wants to help each other and it actually feels like a family. The work life balance allows me to keep up with my extra circular activities without feeling like I am too busy at work
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Be yourself and apply for something you are passionate about. Everyone at UBS is so passionate about what they do, which really fuels the culture. Research about UBS's history and really get a feel for what the company is about. It is important that you agree with the culture of the bank.
