Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Week on week I will work on a different team for different audits. The role is to assist with the planning and execution stages of the audit. Days can vary between working from home, the BDO office and going out on site and working in person with the clients to ask them questions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy this programme as it is a combination of learning off the job at college though the exams and daily when working. You also work on different jobs and with different people most weeks so you get a lot of variety and each day is different t from the one before.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to use excel as this was not something that I had done previously so we had training on it and using it everyday helps to improve on this. Also you do a lot of communicating with people from BDO and the entitys so this skill is also improved.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think that the structure of the programme is good because you get to learn the theory of audit and accounting in college and on training courses that BDO run and then get to apply it and see things in practice in the real world to further your knowledge and understanding.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receive a lot of support. When you first join everyone is assigned a buddy who is another trainee that joined before you and a people manager. You can always ask questions to both of them and you have regular catch ups with them to check in on how you are doing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

On some of the courses they are run in person so on these ones it is really easy to ask your tutor for help when you are in. For the self study there is a portal where you can submit questions and an email address to contact so there is still good support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it is useful as it teaches you the background knowledge which really helps to understand the work you are performing and the reasons as to why you are doing it. The only negative is having to balance working and revising for exams all at once as it can be a lot.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I think there are networks across the firm but I don't know a lot about them as I am not involved in any. There aren't any regular sport teams that I know of but there are one off tournaments that you can get involved with if you want to.

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a supportive company with a good people culture so you feel valued. Everyone is friendly and helpful with the jobs as you have a lot of questions when you are knew. There are also regular social activities to enjoy with your colleagues out side of working in the office.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Be yourself as that is what BDO values. Make sure you research the job properly before hand as it is a very enjoyable and rewarding job if you have an interest in it but it is a lot of work so you need to enjoy it and know what you're getting into.
