Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm an audit trainee, who will be an audit assistant manager when I qualify at the end of my apprenticeship. I work on a range of audits, and gain experience in many sectors, and accounting generally.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have a great cohort of school-leavers alongside myself, and enjoy the work greatly. It is a great gateway into any financial/accounting area, or even just general business/management, as you learn the pitfalls of any organisations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Accounting/Auditing, as well as extensive training in leadership, personal development in terms of time management, and pressure management. Working on listed entity audits can be very stressful, so it is great for learning how to excel in high-pressure sitiuations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised. I get helpful communications from my line manager/ the partners regularly, and am never in the dark about any upcoming exams or work
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Overtime is paid out very well, and commitments outside of work are well-respected, and understood to often-time take priority if they are important.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of study-leave, and support when it comes to contact with exam boards/ training providers. Our training is provided by BPP, and BDO have very good communication when it comes to liaising and resolving issues with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I would be unable to perform my role without the training provided. Training is sometimes a little dis-engaging due to now being largely online as opposed to being in-person.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Plenty - I play in a cricket team and football team for BDO. My sector has a social event every couple of months, and many others have a mandatory event every month and attendance is highly encouraged.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I'm well-supported and have agency in how much responsibility I would like to take on. Overtime is well-paid and well-appreciated, and the teams I get to work with have great fun working together.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
If you're a friendly, smart individual, then it may sound cliché but be yourself. Don't attempt to be overly-professional as that isn't enjoyable to work with, and tends to hinder performance and the interviewer's perspective. Let your personality shine through, and apply again if you fail.
