Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am part of the Public Sector audit team. I am assigned to different audit projects, each about 6 weeks long or shorter. Typical public sector clients include NHS trusts, ICBs, District Councils, County Councils, Charities etc. For each project, the manager would assign me a part of the audit to complete. For example, I am currently working on an NHS client and I am responsible for completing the Expenditure testing. For this, I would have to set up meetings with the client, view extraction of information from client's systems and use this information to pick samples and perform testing. Regular meetings and communication are held within the audit team and also with the client to ensure the project is up to schedule.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Honestly, the enjoyment element depends on the project you are based on. As long as you can work together as a team and your colleagues/client are helpful, I really enjoy my work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
When I started, I did not know much about auditing. I am now a year and a half in to this apprentice programme, and I can confidently manage my own financial statement area during an audit. So I have learnt plenty of helpful and exciting skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The organisation of my study leaves and exams could be much better. At several instances, me or a group of trainees have had to take the initiative to organise our exams in time so that we can qualify by contracted time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
Support mainly comes from our people manager and other mangers who are proactive enough to help trainees out. Overall, I would say I receive some support and would like further support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A lot of support is provided during exam time, including tuition, revision sessions and further materials to help us pass the exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification definitely helps me excel at my role. It provides me with the basic understanding of all areas of my work and gives me confidence to ask questions and develop myself at my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes. There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in.
