Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Home carer - visiting homes of clients and providing care within their home, ranging from personal care, preparing food and giving medication, this allows them to remain in their home. We can also spend time doing a house sit, to allow their partner time to go out and complete things they enjoy doing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying learning and although I’ve only just started I think it’s going to be very informative and will enjoy learning every aspect of the job role that I am doing. Doing this programme will help me progress further in my job and that’s what I’m looking forward to as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
There are so many things I have learnt in this job, I’ve learnt moving and handling skills, all about duty of care.I have also learnt some interesting things whilst completing my first few months of my diploma, which has helped me deal with some of my own personal experiences.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured and you can see what needs to be done throughout, sometimes there is a lot that needs to be done and you have to manage that along with working and home life but some how the work seems to get done and is always completed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, and the other carers I work with who have completed the same level previously. All offer advice and help where needed. My employer allows me time off to complete the tasks and allow me looks of opportunities to go out on training to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have received lots of support, and they are always at the end of a message when needed. I have received great feedback about the tasks I’ve already completed and then further help when needed, they’ve provided me with extra support through links when needed which has been helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has made me think about my job role a lot more when giving care, you remember about all the things you actually put into practice every day without realising it. And has helped me to look at things differently to how o might have looked at some things previously.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We do have a regular meeting with all the other carers and management once a month so that we can all keep updated about clients and policies, it’s also a way to bring up issues and support each other in our day to day job as we are often out working alone.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Paragon Skills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because it’s a good course company and I have had no negativity with anything at the moment. My personal tutor has been supportive along the way, is easy to talk to, and all the things looking ahead that we are going to be learning look very interesting and will be of great help.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Paragon Skills?
To always take your time, ask for help from your personal tutor when needed, don’t be afraid that your answers are wrong as there are no wrong answers and they will help you to figure it all out if you don’t fully understand. And to enjoy it all and try not to stress about it.
