Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
On our first day, we were introduced to each-other via Microsoft Teams. We had a general overview of what we would do throughout the week. On day 2, we went around the hangar at LHR. On day 3, we spoke to some professionals at the BA Headquarters and on day 4 we improved our employability.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
As an aviation-geek, the work experience has been a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, being around people with the same goals and passion as me was incredible, I learnt so much from speaking alone. The staff were so happy and proud to work for such a company as BA and the whole team welcomed everyone with open arms.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
I would say it was very well organised, as we often finished tasks early. We had our day laid out very well, we knew what we were doing and the staff knew what to expect. Health and Safety was taken seriously, making sure that we entered the area within the airport zone as a group, without any dangerous items.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
The Work Experience affirmed my passion for aviation, and my willingness to work with aviation. I was beginning to consider thinking of a job at an office, but after this work experience I can't get enough of planes, and I really would like to work with them more in the future.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
2/5
I was not paid or reimbursed for the experience, however this work experience is for people under-18 and to show them how a life of an aircraft engineer is like, therefore I don't think being reimbursed was needed. They however did give us a free British Airways crew bus pass for the days.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
4/5
We learnt a lot, for example how hand-skills are very important, we learnt about how important Health and Safety is, as well as how grades at school don't really matter, it's just about your passion for the job. We also learnt about how complicated aircraft really are, and what a unique job it is.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I learnt quite a lot about the company culture, which is perfect in my opinion. The staff would often make jokes with each-other, and could relate to us really well. There is professionalism at British Airways, but the staff aren't up-tight, and love to make jokes, or talk about their job with anyone.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Yes, we were able to talk to pilots as well as maintenance engineers. The reason we were able to speak to pilots is because a lot of the cohort were interested in becoming pilots, so the amazing team at BA were able to set us up and speak to a pilot.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The whole process was seamless, the staff are amazing, the culture at work is diverse. BA as a company are interesting, and to see the backbone of their operations in action was something amazing. If my friend was an aviation-geek, this would be a no-brainer. I think that anyone who has an interest in planes should apply.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Simply, make sure you are honest. Make your application detailed but also interesting. Go out of your way to make your application the best it can be because BA is a huge company, and they have a lot of applicants meaning that you need to stand out in order to be accepted.
