Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role at the moment is to shadow production associates within the woodshop in order to start learning the processes. This is to help with the final job role at the end of the apprenticeship I am aiming for. It will allow me to do the job and get as much exposure to the business as possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I would say that I enjoy the programme 90% of the time, most days I am doing something new and different which is always exciting to me. That also makes it enjoyable for me. Most of the college work I enjoy doing too especially the fabricating and machining we do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have learnt lots of skills both at work and at college. I have developed basic manufacturing skills of benchfitting, basic mechanics, lathe work, welding, sheet metal fabrication and lean manufacturing. At work, I have learnt a lot about the specifics of veneer and the processes we have at the factory and certain problem solving techniques

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
At the start, I was a little disappointed with the organisation because there was a lack of communication between managers and apprentices and higher level managers and the college but this has improved over time. I gained a mentor as well about half way through and that helped a lot with the structure of the placements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
If i needed the support, the employer would be there for me and I find it easy to come and find the support. Sometimes it has been a little difficult to receive the the support that fitted me best though. But I think this could be improved a little bit.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of support. The lecturers are always there if we need and even if we do not need them, they are still around. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is amazing and is fantastic in everything, he is a living legend. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is also really good and is always there for us which is important.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It does help me in some ways because it is giving me a foundation in lean which is super important at the factory and within my job role but the course is a little basic and simple for some of us, those who have -come from A-Levels or higher because its very very straight forward.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are lots of activites that you can get involved with such as green goblin, helping with the new apprentices, apprentice newsletter, apprentice job days on a wednesday, helping with careers events, playing sports on sports teams such as football and rugby. There are lots of other things to do.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would say that it is a really good place to work and it is really fun here. It is also really good at developing skills and a really good place to have on your CV. It is good and fun and have told my mates to apply for internships here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Be yourself, be genuine. They are looking for someone with potential, not someone who is faking it. They want to see who you are as a person. They want someone that is just you. Don't change yourself for the role because they will see through you. Research the company too, KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN R-RMC AND RR PLC!!
