Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On nights we check people in and deal with something called silent nights where we monitor the corridors and lock the main doors for the safety of our guests and staff, we deal with the end of day which is where we run the end of day profits which includes dealing with cash if any is taken. We also do light cleaning tasks and distribute the linen over night making sure everything is clean and tidy in main area of the hotel.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
This is helping me better myself as I struggled in school with work as I struggle with reading and writing but this programme is really helping as I’m not getting rushed but I also get help with my reading and writing if I get stuck, it is great being able to do it in my own time which makes it really good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
When I started I knew nothing of reception work, whereas now I have a great understanding of dealing with customer complaints and giving advise. My social skills have improved a lot especially with talking on the phone as before I would never know how to answer any questions that were asked. I have a better understanding in the whole of my job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I find it is very organised as I like that there is a calendar and it is all spaced out, but you can still do other things in case you want to change it up and the structure of how the apprenticeship works around my home life and my work life is good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I get a lot of support from her as when I struggle with anything, I just need to ask and then I will get help. I have also had a difficult month in which I got a lot of support and was asked how I was doing frequently.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I get a lot of support towards my qualifications as I never got that in school but I get help when I am struggling I get good reviews on what work I have done which gives me advise on what to work on and what I’ve done well at which helps me improve my next modules.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I am aiming to get higher up in my job and someday become a manager which this is helping me learn more in the business side of things and deeper into my job role than I did know. It is also helping me get my Maths and English which I never got. This will help to get me on better with jobs that need more qualifications.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are not any official ones, but we always have Christmas parties where all staff go to which is nice as being a night worker you barely see people and it is nice speaking to colleagues.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because there is a great apprenticeship scheme for people who haven’t got any education. Also, there is a share plan which is a great way to save and start you off also the staff are friendly and the managers are so helpful when you have any issues it is a great way to learn new skills and become part of a lovely team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
I would tell them to definitely jump on the apprenticeship scheme and the share scheme as it is a great way to get a savings account going and get you qualifications that no other job would give you the time to do so. Always ask for help when you are struggling as they are so caring and will understand any issue you go through and help you.
