Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Over 3 weeks I worked with a senior consultant on an important healthcare project regarding COVID-19. I worked virtually producing slide decks, collating our findings for the client. I led a case study consulting project and participated in skills workshops, including storyboarding, applying and interviewing.
Day to day tasks involved meeting with other employees to learn more about Deloitte and career paths, engaging in meetings and workshops with other employees and interns. Most of the day was spent sending emails and working with my manager on powerpoint for client meetings.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was actively encouraged to engage with employees in other service lines and attend industry panels to learn more about Deloitte and their roles. This was supported by the culture whereby everyone I asked to meet with was more than accommodating with their time and everyone offered support and advice - Including senior employees. It was expected to explore other service lines and roles as well as the one I was already in.

I developed soft skills such as communication and leadership as well as technical skills on powerpoint, word, and excel. I learnt about strategy frameworks to better improve presentation skills.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere was very welcoming as if you were already apart of the company. In meetings I was treated as a member of the team and was supported as such. I was most surprised that the competitive atmosphere I was expecting was non-existent. Other interns within my service line and out-with were incredibly friendly and we worked together as a team more often than not.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed the vacation scheme because it was more than a work experience check-box where I was genuinely included in the project and had valued tasks to complete. The variety in my schedule made it more enjoyable because I would meet a senior official and then attend an industry panel or project presentation and finish the day with a strategy case study with interns.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
To prepare as much as possible for case studies but not to be nervous as most of the assessments were more focused with personality and the ability to recognise and solve a problem rather than have all the answers.
Research the company and role heavily as their culture underpins both the application process and the internship.
