Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
During the week, we do training and learning for both our Level 3 and the Level 2 that we are also completing. On the Monday, we do our assignments for our Level 3 and then the rest of the week we spend in the workshop completing the training for our Level 2.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am thoroughly enjoying my experience that I am having from my apprenticeship. I did a similar course with another college and did not have a good experience. However, getting to do the apprenticeship and getting to look at all of the areas I will get to work in makes me really look forward to the rest of my time here.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed not only engineering skills but also skills that I can use in other environments as well. This includes learning how to work in a team more effectively, but also learning hand fitting skills. We have also learnt milling and turning, also welding, mechanical skills and fluid power skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme has been organised very well. We have been split into three groups in order to ensure that we can all get through the activities. We spend the required amount of time doing each different unit and we all finish the work on time. Each unit is split into a larger group with a different tutor for each one.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Throughout the week we are able to gain help and support from our employer. They are always available to answer any questions we may have as well as help us with any problems. We also receive support from our trainers whenever we require it. Our employers and trainers are available throughout the week.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Our trainers support us a lot throughout our first year as apprentices, this being because most of us are new to the environment. They help us practice all of our skills and give advice to help us with any issues or problems that we may need to overcome within the work environment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The Level 3 qualification is a good qualification that we require for our future job role as Maintenance Technicians. We are learning the most needed subjects, such as the fluid systems and the mechanical section. We also learn more topics that we may need but are not mandatory, such as welding and hand fitting.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
BMW Group has many extra curricular activities to get involved in. There are multiple different football teams that are available to join. There is a women netball team that you can also join. Some apprentices also run a newsletter, and there are charity champions that you can get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are very inclusive and they will support you in what you want to do. Also, it allows you to understand what it is like to work for a larger company. We get the opportunity to train for a good amount of time side by side with the people that we will be working with in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
It can sometimes feel overwhelming but all of the work you receive, you do get time to complete while you are at work, especially in your first year. Make sure to try your hardest and put the maximum effort in, in order to get the most out of it, but also because you may need to use your work in the future.
