Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
On a day-to-day basis, I attend breakdowns and fault find and rectify problems on the machines, occasionally we will perform preventative maintenance to help prolong the machines lifespan. As i am in my second year of my four year course, I go to college one day a week.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme when it is busy, but you have to be prepared to put the effort in outside of work. I really enjoy being around the people I work with as they are very understanding and supportive and are a really good laugh when you talk to them.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have massively developed my mechanical skills and fault finding abilities during my time. I have also learnt about the electrical side of engineering and have become more capable then I had ever thought I was going to be at electrical fault finding and understanding of electrical drawings and testing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The organisation has really improved over the short time I have been here and they put a lot of thought into where they place you and who they place you with to get the right people supporting you to get the most out of you. Also, they set realistic targets.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support when I need it in the relevant places I may struggle in and from the employer I actually get a lot of support with issues outside of work. They really have your best interests at heart and put you first before anything.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider makes sure I am on track and have the relevant people to go to if i am behind or struggling with the work I have. I am never without support. If I need it, I always know who to go to if I need help with the work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualifications really help me to perform tasks safely and give me a really good base set of hands on skills to take to the factory and a really good understanding of how to understand the electrical side of things along with the mechanical fault finding techniques that I can apply in the factory.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extra curricular activities you can get involved in, such as the football team which is a great bit of fun and things like the gym are available to apply for. We did tree planting for a promotional page for mini and helped the local environment and we had fun doing it and was a good laugh.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because BMW is a great place to work at and it has a great pension plan and the people you work around are really friendly and will help you learn and grasp a better understanding of maintenance. Not only that, but the workplace is really technology advanced and is great for those who love the engineering behind it all.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Be willing to take information in, there is a lot to learn and you will be supported along the way. Make sure you do not keep to yourself because the best way to learn is to get out there and talk to people.
