Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I primarily assisted in producing/finalising procedures/workflows. This involved reaching out to the various teams involved in the operation that the procedure was explaining to gather information, understand the process, and ensure the procedures were thorough and of sufficient detail. Also, I attended many networking events (speaker events, roundtables etc.) to learn more about the culture of the organisation.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of responsibility during my internship - the procedures that I was working on will be used by Morgan Stanley employees in the future. Therefore, I was completing meaningful, essential and important work.
I was given responsibility to be independent and reach out to various teams so I could learn more about the organisation and update my procedures accordingly.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I greatly developed my Microsoft Excel skills - through completing an internal training course and also using Excel in my day to day tasks.
I greatly developed my presentation skills - through presenting to fellow interns and also to my team managers etc.
I greatly developed my collaboration skills - through reaching out and collaborating with various teams involved in the process that my procedure(s) were explaining, and working on day to day tasks within my team.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I gained lots of support and guidance over the course of my internship. For example, I completed many compulsory internal training courses . In addition to this, extra training courses (i.e. Excel courses) were offered.
I was also assigned a buddy who I could ask questions/raise concerns to - this was extremely helpful.
I had a mid point and end point review with my manager and also with HR - all of these sessions were beneficial.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was extremely supportive and did not hesitate to offer any guidance.
The culture was excellent - a big emphasis was placed on diversity and inclusion, with regular meetings to discuss various important topics.
Also, a great emphasis was placed on 'giving back' - through volunteering (e.g. Mapathon, Move for Meals) and charity work.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved my internship - it was great to be working on tasks that were meaningful and important. There was also a great company culture - emphasised by the many opportunities to get involved in volunteering and charity work. Everyone was extremely supportive and helpful. Overall, the internship met and exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely go back.

What advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Stanley
When applying, research the organisation thoroughly, especially the differences between divisions. You do not need to be an expert on finance, but be enthusiastic, passionate and show you want to learn.
If successful with the application process, ask as many questions and attend as many events as possible - there are a wide range of speaker calls, career conversations, volunteering events etc. available. This is a great way to network and learn more about the organisation.
