Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am an audit assistant. My role is to carry out the bulk of work on audits such as controls and substantive testing. I have also had the responsibility of scoping testing for audits. I work closely with my team on a daily basis and raise any issues or concerns i notice from the testing. I also work with the client to solve these issues and understand the root cause as this could lead to a breach etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy my day to day work as i get to work on new areas of audit and different people. Exams can be stressful as you have to manage your work load with revision but i think its key to set boundaries with your team so they understand what your priorities are outside of working hours.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have further developed my communication skills as i regularly work with my internal team and external clients. I have learned how to improve my speaking and written skills when working with other people. Organisation skills are also very important in the role as you are often working on multiple areas of the audit with varying deadlines so it is important to be able to manage the workload.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The exams are very structured and we get a timetable explaining when these are taking place. I think the organisation of providing exam material could be improved a lot as i tend to get this later than expected which can affect my revision. I find that the work aspect is more organised as you have a timetable with all your future booking noted and if there is a gap in your schedule then you have time to raise this with the resourcing team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I feel like there is good support in my day to day work experience. Managers and assistant managers are usually available when you have work queries to discuss. We also have a performance manager who is available for any general concerns or queries you have. I meet with my performance manager on a monthly basis for a catch up which makes me feel more supported with my programme. Generally I think you need to reach out if you want support as there is always someone available to help you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I feel like the training provider can be a bit slow at replying to queries/emails but they always try to help you out or redirect you to a more appropriate person. In my experience so far they have been supportive when I needed exams rescheduled and tutors are available via email if you have any questions about your studies.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I don't feel like the content i have studied so far in my exams has related to my day to day role as the exams are more centred around financial statement audits and not compliance audits (which i mainly work on). This can be frustrating at times as there is not a direct correlation but it is something new you get to learn.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in. This can be within your department such as socials or team events after you have signed an audit. There are also networking events you join outside your department such as sporting societies, religious networks, film club etc. If there isn't a club for your hobby/interest then you can always create one too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall, my experience has been good at KPMG. The day to day work is always new so there is room for personal and professional growth. You get to work with people from different levels and understand their experiences at KPMG which can help you navigate certain areas. There are a lot of societies you can join outside of work which allow you the opportunity to network beyond your department.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Reach out to someone who works in the role you are applying for to understand more about their experience or advice they would have wanted to know before they join. This can help you understand more about the reality of the role and what your average day may look like.
