Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The role of a Toolmaker is all about maintaining dies which are used to press steel panels, this could be fore fixing chips and burrs which are needed to make sure that these are fixed and in a correct condition in which they can overall produce a good finish for this. Working with more experienced people being able to learn more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the program, every day has a different outlook on what the work which is needed to be done for this to be achieved. We have a good level of education for college for the work to be able to allow these to be able to be achieved also. Any help i need i feel like i can also ask this too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I've learned how to grind better as well as stone for this to ensure that all the grind has been stoned and blended into ensure that it has a good finished.
You use a lot of hand skills like filing and using emery paper to achieve a good finish. We also learn how to use machinery like cnc machines and lathes as well as surface grinders.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
During the placements we go around different areas of the plant which allows us to get different levels of experience for these to be able to achieved to ensure that i can do this. Also the college is also well structured in how the HNC which we are getting this year is given.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I think we get a lot of support from the company. I'm able to make sure that if i have any questions i am able to ask for help, also as well as ask for extra support for things in which i needed help with to be able to have extra time for college work etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I think i receive a lot of support when working towards my qualifications, i feel that on the whole there is work in which i can work towards allowing me to have support as well as ask questions when i need help. However there are some occasions in which i need to ask more than i feel i should to get something i should of got anyways.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the knowledge they have given me allows me to do my job now at work better than of what i would of been able to do if i didn't get the qualifications. I believe that most of the resources we get and most of the knowledge we get is important to be able to use these.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are skern lodge in which this is done within the first couple of weeks which you go on, however i wasn't able to go because of covid because of this. We have also had opportunity to go on site visits to rolls Royce and have one later to go to oxford where they make it

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this to a friend this as they give a great working opportunity to be able to feel like you are able to do a job. However they also help give you qualifications you could get else where while also training to be able to do a job well at the same time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
If i was able to get advise before applying i wish i could here be yourself. Behave in a way in which you are respectful as well as show you personality and make sure that you know what they are after before you apply. Just like make sure to research anything in which maybe needed before you carry out the interviews as they will remember any preparations you put in before you do it.
