Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I'm currently working as a dimensional control apprentice at BMW Group Plant Swindon
where I measure and analyse the single panels and assemblies produced, ensuring the geometric integrity of the MINI body, working closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure dimensional integrity is achieved and maintained on critical aspects of body build.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I've thoroughly enjoyed my time as an apprentice within the BMW Group, there have been multiple opportunities that has allowed me to network with other BMW Apprentices nationwide and build my knowledge from working on other sites. There are also groups outside work that help to build the social aspect of working within a massive organisation which helps with improved working relationships.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I've learnt to be more independent when it comes to working and problem-solving within the department. This stems from the workplaces' principles that encourages me as an apprentice to take on responsibilities and use those experiences working on different projects to improve my communication within the team and my confidence when it comes to sharing results.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I'm in my final placement within the Quality department and the structure laid out by my managers has been very helpful to making sure that I achieve the objectives set and keeping me accountable with what I'm learning. We have regular reviews with our manager which helps to ensure we are keeping on track to finish our apprenticeship well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The BMW Group provides a substantial amount of support to us apprentices. They understand that as apprentices juggling with work and education can be a very daunting task and therefore allow us if we need to keep on track of our education. Also, with the provision of a laptop, it's helpful for use within work and college.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The tutors and training provider help provide enough support with resources and one-to-one support when it comes to assessments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I'm currently studying towards a BEng in Manufacturing Engineering, this qualification definitely helps me to understand my workplace more which translates into different areas of topics that I learn when working with different departments. The qualification helps me to feel more confident in my current role and whichever role I find myself in the future in the manufacturing space.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are multiple extra-curricular activities set by the apprentices in the UK such as the newsletter team, the apprentice network, and much more.
