Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am responsible for IT infrastructure. I deploy and manage code changes, ensuring that systems are up and running smoothly.
I am working on tasks aimed at improving systems and tools for internal clients.
Day to day activities may include: cloning repositories, creating feature branches to make changes to the code, and push changes for review. I also work on scripts to automate manual tasks, which will then be used by internal teams such as the FL team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy what I do, and that gives me the motivation to improve and do better.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Every day I learn something new, being technical skills (such as improving my Python and Terraform knowledge), or dealing with internal clients, or understanding long-term team and company goals.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The programme is well organised in terms of lessons and instructions. However, there is quite a big lack of communication in between the apprenticeship provider and the company. There is not information as to whether my role will be allowed to continue in the company after the apprenticeship, and the general feeling is that the company is completely disconnected from the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive great support in everyday tasks, and queries about knowledge learned in the apprenticeship programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The mentoring has been really good throughout the programme, and I felt like I could always reach out if I had a query.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The skills gained during the programme definitely improved my confidence in everyday tasks. I feel like I would have been much less skilled if I wasn't in the programme.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
A part from social work events, I have not been involved in anything else.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
High professional environment, with people down to earth. I have never felt uncomfortable in the teams I've worked with, and always felt like I could express my opinions or any concerns.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
If you are on an apprenticeship scheme which is not university, my advise is to speak to HR from day 1, and ask them to put you in the next pool of candidates for permanent roles...
