Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a care assistant you work to give everyone (residents and family members) the care and support they need, ranging from personal hygiene and pad changes to assisted meals or supporting families with their relatives care. We give our residents person centered care and ensure they are happy every day

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my program because of my coach. She’s lovely and always offers help even when I don’t need it. I also enjoy my program because it teaches me things that I can’t or am not able to learn at work and gives me insights on different things

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt my Manual and handling skills, knowing how to move someone safely and what to do if you are not able to do so. I’ve learnt how to hoist and manouviour someone in a safe manner
Communication skills and how to express my thoughts to someone who might have trouble communicating

My employer is there whenever I need anything wether that’s information on things or just a chat

My coach is always just a message away when I’m stuck or in need of something. She always reply’s back within a day or two and gives me information on what to do and how to do it
She does monthly reviews with me and always asks if I need anything

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My training provider ensures I’m getting the learning I need to be able to do my role correctly
I learn more about manual handling and safeguarding and how to report incidents/ bullying or complaints properly
I learn more about my job and how to do it so I can go to work everything and complete it safely

Would you recommend Barchester Healthcare to a friend?

Yes

Why?

They open new opportunities to the care community, they allow you to complete your level 3s , 5s etc and move up to other things like senior carers, nurses, care practitioner or maybe someday a manager.
They also allow new friendships between employers and your colleagues and you get to see how different people live
