Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Auditing the financial statements of a variety of companies. Working on client sites, the office and from home which gives a lot of flexibility. Working towards being AAT qualified then ICAS
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I chose my apprenticeship over uni which was a great choice for me. I enjoy learning new things everyday on the job and know that I am working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. I enjoy the challenge of the role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Personally I have become more confident and sociable due to working in a team environment and in a client facing role. I have also developed a wide range of career skills on the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a clear pathway set out for your studies to become a CA. You know in advance when tuition and exams will be so you can plan your time accordingly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
KPMG is a supportive employer and has a focus on mental health. My colleagues do everything they can to best support me and are understanding that you need to log off at 5 in the run up to exams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
You attend classes and then always have a tutor you can reach out to with any queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think you develop a better understanding of businesses finances and financial statements whilst studying. This means you can better understand the work you are doing as you know what figures should agree and where they should go in the financial statements.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are regularly social events at work for example away days and drinks after work. There are also professional networks which you can join and read about on KPMG's website.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
KPMG has supported me throughout my apprenticeship and has been a great opportunity for me to kick start my career and grow as a person. There are a number of benefits also to working here including the salary, birthday day off, opportunities to travel etc.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
I thoroughly researched KPMG and understood their values and what they stood for before applying and talked about that in my interview and how my own values aligned with the companies. Also, it is important to be passionate about why you want to do the role you apply for.
