Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work with learning providers and the business to support the development needs of colleagues within our Logistics, Funeralcare and Central Business Services departments. I am available to support colleagues who require internal intervention and I closely monitor and measure the performance of the providers, feeding back where improvements are required.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
This program has been life changing for me. Having not been in formal learning for nearly 30 years, this programme has awoken a passion for learning in me. My confidence has grown and i utilise my knowledge daily. I have absolutely loved every second of the programme, it was a complete joy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My communication has vastly improved, I have gained the confidence to speak to and influence all levels of managers and leaders. My ability to deal with conflict and internal politics has also improved greatly. I would say now that I better understand how we learn, I have more confidence feeding back on poor content or delivery.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme was chunked into areas of study that were concluded with a written assessed submission. Each assessment started with an introduction session where all learners could ask questions, this was followed by online learning in a virtual campus with weekly work to complete. There was a mid point Cohort Cafe that served to solidify learning and guide towards best assessment content.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have been brilliantly supported by my employer. Some areas of the Standard didn't naturally sit in my job role so my line manager invited me to various meetings to gain me exposure to other business areas. My OTJ has always been protected and where support was needed my line manager has taken work away from me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I had a dedicated tutor for my Cipd learning as well as a learning and development coach. My tutor was excellent at making seemingly complex content very accessible and easier to understand. The support I gained from my coach supported me to take my theory and utilise it in the work place.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I genuinely would not be able to work at the level and pace I currently work at if I hadn't have completed my studies. The knowledge and skills I have gained have fundamentally changed me as a professional learning and development advisor. I am well informed and competent in all aspects of my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I take part in a Talent Acquisition and Development coffee roulette, where we are paired with other members of the team to discuss our roles and introduce ourselves. We are a large team with hybrid work patterns often working from home so we don't bump into each other at the office. These social events are great for networking.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because there is an amazingly supportive and developmental culture here. The working conditions are exceptional, the pay is fair and bench marked, benefits are superb and the senior leaders are ethical send trustworthy. Coop genuinely cares about its colleagues, customers and members. My line managers listens and I feel like I am trusted.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
Coop puts almost as much emphasis on behaviours as it does ability. Being honest and true to who you are is part of our culture. We support diversity and inclusion so let your personality shine. If you have ever worked anywhere that didn't put you first and used draconian management practices, coop will be a breath of fresh air!
