Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Being the person in control where I am able to open and close the store, delegate tasks to my team, be in control of the store when my manager is on holiday, carrying out legal checks and if the store is operating accordingly. Cash handling, deal with customer queries or complaints.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy sharing my work with others and having more responsibility within the store since my apprenticeship has started.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have gained confidence in running the team how I would like to, ensuring all my staff are happy with how I work alongside them. I have also looked more into the business side of the company from following targets and making improvements in departments such as retail waste. I have also had the opportunity to receive my alcohol license.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well organised on onefile where tasks are allocated with a deadline. Reminders are created which helps keep my time management used wisely. I have continuous contact with my tutor, in which we have regular teams calls just for check in meetings.
The courses set are interesting and informative, and the remote teams sessions with the other students relating to a topic are a good way to see how others are doing with their work and we are able to share ideas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a substantial amount of support from my employer, I am allocated 6 hours a week to carry out my work, but my manager has given me support outside of these hours which has helped with my progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My tutor has been supportive when I am struggling with work or feel like I'm not going into the right direction. We have regular check in meetings where she is able to help me or quickly read over a report. She has also put me out of my comfort zone by encouraging me to do presentations for practice as I am not very confident with public speaking.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The has helped me build confidence in the work place where I understand why I do the job I do. I have also taken a sense of pride in creating a project within my apprenticeship to use in the work place which involves the whole of the store team
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are charity events which I try to involve myself in, I am yet to link with our store pioneer to work alongside them with any events they are taking part in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Co-op is a well paying job. The company is very accommodating to all from mental health to disability. They encourage progression and there is opportunities to do so. They are also linked into community and charity which most companies don't have an involvement in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
Research the company or the store you've applied for, look at the local causes. What membership is and the information about the shares. The co-op values. Be honest and avoid jargon talk. Be confident and show a passion for working for the company aswell as being yourself. Let the interviewer get a feel for who you really are.
