Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working with stakeholders and learning and development teams to project manage a learning project end to end, making sure all is on track. Responsible for risks, issues and safe and legal mandatory learning plans. Part of planning and partnering team where we look at planning work in across the year and beyond.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
co-op have been fab and I’ve felt very well supported from that side in terms of time to study etc and support contacts. It’s not been as consistent from Avado with changes to coaches and tutors meaning the required support hasn’t always been there which is unfortunate

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, working and managing more senior stakeholders, particularly when looking at areas such an influencing and having more difficult conversations. A wider Human Resources view from a people/commercial/strategic perspective. Importance of people teams having a seat at the table and the importance of that role/function to organisational success.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Co-op side, very. Avado has seen various challenges with resource. There has been a set plan per module which is good but some of the live sessions and coach support could be improved I would say. We have no tutor currently and there have been some OD challenges their end
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Lots. My manager is great and we regularly check in to see how I am progressing and if I need anything such as time, support etc. I have an apprenticeship advisor contact who links in with Avado which has been useful in terms of providing feedback and escalations when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Not as much as would have liked, as previously mentioned there have been issues around coach and tutor changes, we currently still have no tutor which isn’t great really. The level of coach contact hasn’t been as regular as I’d hoped or thought it would be unfortunately
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It makes me think more about the bigger picture of a piece of learning, with a more strategic, commercial lens. Balancing creativity with business need to create a robust and effective solution. I feel more confident as a project manager working with various stakeholders to progress and keep up momentum
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I am a member of colleague voice (both local and national representative), where we look at what is going well and what could do with improvement. I’m also part of Aspire which is focused on female progression/development and they host webinars on lots of great and informative topics

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great organisation that is member owned and has ethics and values, not shareholders. It’s meaningful work in any role helping our customers and communities thrive. Flexible and hybrid working policies, among others are progressive and family friendly. You feel supported and part of the Co-op family which is great.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
Think about why you’re applying and how you can make a difference. Take some time to research who we are and what we stand for, as well as how you can contribute. It’s balancing our ethos and ethics with commerciality so showing how you can support is key.
