Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
On a day to day basis, I take part in reviewing operational risk issues and taking part in the quarterly RAA process and the bi-yearly KPCi assessment process. I manage the admin side of things in the team via a central tracker and ensure to keep an eye on our ORIs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy the studying side of things, and to some extent the work side of things. At times it may feel like a lot of pressure and high expectations, however overall an enjoyable programme. I enjoy the challenge and feelings of accomplishment, however flexibility in terms of WFH can be better standardised across the cohort.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I have learnt how to constantly update my team about where I am and what I am doing - thus adjusting my communication and working style to accommodate. I have learnt how to manage my workload during busy periods and communicate efficiently. I have also learnt to take ownership over key tasks.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Having just completed my first exam and not knowing if it was to be based online or in the testing centre the night before was really stressful and made me realize the organization side of the programme could be better handled. However I have an amazing academic mentor and good lecturers.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
My employer provides adequate support - at times it may be difficult to manage high, time pressure workload simultaneously with exam periods, however accommodation is provided in terms of being able to work from home. HR can be a bit slow with responses at times - for example the nightmare on the day before my exam. However overall good support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My training provider ensures to give us exam questions and masterclasses throughout the module to ensure we are well prepared for the main exams. There is good communication and support availability as the disposal of apprentices which is good especially if there is confusion or questions within the module course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification contains a lot of material on risk and managing these risks which is the essence of my role. The content is heavily practiced with the tasks that I complete. I have a better understanding of why I am required to do what I do and am learning more on both the practical and educational side as time flies.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a lot of societies within the bank aligning to a range of interests that employees can get involved with. For example MOSAIC. which focuses on diversity and there is also a gym available to get in a few workouts whenever you are feeling stressed - overall a good selection of activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great place to work and you can learn a lot, however it is difficult to shake off the image of being an apprentice (student), though you are also an employee at the same time and should also be treated as the rest of employees are treated. That's all.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Please be prepared to put in the time and dedication to seeing this programme through and delivering a lot simultaneously on the work side of things. Compared to a lot of other places, UBS is diverse and can feel like home, but hard work is required consistently as you will be challenged.
