Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves working on behalf of the client by liaising with land owners via email/telephone/site visit about land consents.
Creating wayleaves.
Using GIS Software to complete land referencing and complete Estate Reviews.
2 week block release to university, 3 times a year to complete qualification alongside 1 day a week self learning to supplement this.
Shadow colleagues in the office and on site visits to develop knowledge and new skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme very much. All of my colleagues have been very welcoming since I started my role and are very open to me constantly asking questions to develop my knowledge.
The block release at university also allows me to meet more people within the same field of work out with the company and create connections and overall has been an enjoyable experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am continue to develop my people skills in a different way from my past experience.
I am also learning how to use GIS Software to a confident level.
I am continue developing my knowledge about the infrastructure sector daily.
I have been able to become more independent in my work and increase self-confidence,

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is structured very well. The 2 week block allows us to go to the university while being released from our daily jobs to focus on this. The coursework is then submitted approximatly a month after the university block and 1 day a week study while I am at work allows me to keep on top of the coursework to a good level.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. In my day-to-day role I am constantly asking questions and my colleagues are always welcoming to this. I also get a lot of support with my coursework from colleagues when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Support from the training provider can sometimes feel lacking when you are struggling with a certain aspect. Due to the block release style of learning, the only way to communicate with lecturers at the university is via email. Responses can take a few days to come through. Other aspects about supporting students are very helpful. We have catch ups via video call with our employer and the university recruitment manager (Graduate Apprenticeships) to track progress and express concerns if necessary. The recruitment manager at the university is also very available to speak to students when needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My university course is not directly related to my role. My department is in Infrastructure whereas my degree is Construction and the built environment (Building surveying Pathway) Luckily I have received support from the architecture and building surveying department within the company to increase my understanding or the university coursework. The coursework has helped me to work better with deadlines and improve understanding in areas related to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I have not yet had much opportunity to get involved in extra curricular activities within my company. I have participated in some of the social events but would like to get more involved on the future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Savills has been a very welcoming company to work for. All of my colleagues within my department and further afield have been friendly and supportive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Don't let lack of confidence get in your way and don't give up! I had previously applied for my current position the year prior and had been unsuccessful. I feel like this was due to a lack of confidence I had in myself and my ability. I worked on this and then reapplied for the role the following year and was successful. I am glad I didn't give up because I now thoroughly enjoy my role within Savills.
