Within my virtual insight week we attended a variety of webinars and workshops to learn more about BDO as a company, find out how their staff feel about the roles and learn many skills that can help us in the future no matter what route we decide to go down .
To what extent did you enjoy your virtual experience?

I really enjoyed this work experience. It was organised really well and at all times I felt that everything was arranged in a way that would be beneficial for me and actually relevant. Unlike other programmes this was a lot more interactive and I could easily ask any questions I wanted.
How well organised was your virtual experience?

This work experience was very well organised. We were sent merchandise including free hoodies prior to the programme beginning and sent the timetable for the event well in advance meaning I could make plans around the programme. If there were any issues you could easily ask and get a quick answer.
How much did your virtual experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

This programme helped me to decide that this is a role that I would like to continue with and specifically the company is very appealing to me as a school leaver. It seems like a great company to work for and they give their employees a lot of opportunities in the future.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?

This was not a paid experience. however the free merchandise we received was a nice surprise as this included a red, branded hoodie, a Chilly's like bottle with the logo on it and a notebook and pen which was useful during the sessions that they ran to learn about the company.
Skills Development
What training and skills development did you learn from your virtual experience?

I learnt more about resilience - through a workshop which they ran and how to create a personal brand for myself. Similarly, we learnt about networking and that impact that this can have on your career. I feel that I know more about how to present myself and how this could benefit an application.

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

I learnt a lot about company values and strategy through conversations with partners and directors while also learning more about the company atmosphere from general employee feedback who were honest about their experiences and how It compared to other workplaces that they had seen before and how much more positive BDO was.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

We had many opportunities to network with employees through calls , Linked in connections and many different lunches. For example in the middle of the week we had lunch with a buddy from the company who could teach us about their role and how they felt that they had developed in the future.
Recommendations and Advice
Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They were very supportive to all of the students involved and due to the small size of the programme we felt that they knew us well as people and we were not just viewed as a number. Similarly they have effective values which help to create a psotivie environment for all
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
I would recommend that people do as much as they can in advance to research the company and the different streams that are offered so they can know as much as they can. Similarly, I would recommend making the most of time with staff to learn more and build relationships
