Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
During my work as an apprentice I learnt a lot about how various bits of the business works. This helped build my knowledge as I had an interest in business before starting work. It was great working with new people both in the firm and also getting to know some of my other apprentice starters
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Yes I really enjoyed the apprenticeship right from the start. The people were really nice - my colleagues in the teams and also with the other apprentices who I made friends with quickly. I enjoyed the internship, and learnt a lot about the firm and also clients and how business works

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes I would think my skills working with people are much improved. Before starting work i did some retail work but nothing as advanced as a professional services setting. Working with real business people at there offices was great to learn more on the intracicies of different firms and industries

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured. You get to experience lots of different areas of the firm and there clients at kpmg, across lots of settings. Before you go to clients you learn more about them and the key parts of the work you need to do, and you get lots of help and support
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As I was just saying there you get good support - mostly from your peers and managers, as everyone who has worked on jobs usually stays on and instils there knowledge to you, as you learn how to do things. This is really important as I had no realistic idea how to do the work beforehand!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
You get good support. College is actually great, really interesting but it is demanding, you get support from tutors but you need to learn the content and pass above the all important pass mark. Everything is geared to this - passing and moving on to the next part of the syllabus
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Some bits of the qualification are needed pretty much every day, but other bits I didn't need to use. perhaps this is because the work i had been doing is not senior or advanced enough yet. but there is so much to learn it is impossible to apply everything!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes I am in the city which is great and there is lots of things to do. there are also socials and activities with the team which is nice, also at the end of big assignments there can be opportunity to celebrate and go for a meal or a more informal drink. no pressure to socialise which is nice too

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
the firm is one of the big 4 professional service firms so you are guaranteed a great experience and chance to learn lots. the firm is demanding and college is hard so you need to know why you want to work there and to be prepared to work hard from the outset
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
speak to others first and you may find other people applying who are going through the same thing, it is good to talk with your school contacts and parents as this is a life changing experience and not all parents know much about apprentices, luckily mine were interested and supportive. if not you may need to do more research yourself.
