Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My position is in a front office Artificial Intelligence and Data team where a normal day will involve a mixture of programming and data science tasks as well as ongoing communication with our key stakeholders for our current projects, where their needs are understood and taken to be addressed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Love it, the part that I enjoy the most is the balance of time to learn and the chance to apply it. They provide plenty of space to learn and being a member of the team you can apply the new skills to serious tasks and projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Being on a financial degree apprenticeship but part of a technical team in the IB has led to me taking the time to learn python and SQL as well as improving on my mathematics by taking on a statistical learning course and reading econometrics books/textbooks. Plenty of learning...

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured by The University of Exeter and there is a good general framework which allow the University modules to follow similar content to the CISI exams and the CFA which are part of the course, but the organisation makes it difficult to track upcoming deadlines.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The team is very supportive, they understand that I am also studying for my degree alongside work and they are incredibly useful when I have questions either for University or with my job. Guidance with any problems is always clear and they are supportive in helping problems get resolved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
In general they are always offering support whether it is for the educational aspect or mental health. The modules leads which you are in contact weekly allow students to book time in with them to discuss any questions or raise any concerns.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The job role and the applied finance degree work really well together and the learning from one is complimented with an application at work almost always. The qualification may be quite theoretical but at work you will understand more technical conversations which opens more opportunities to get involved with.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is an apprentice committee at UBS who organize both professional networking events and social events, these can be great for getting to know new people. Outside of work there are a bunch of activities available to get involved in depending on what you enjoy.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The culture is really welcoming and the people that work around you are always happy to have a conversation, help you with something and this creates an environment where you want to learn more, excel yourself and your career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Be yourself and be honest, everyone is unique and it's important to show what it is that interests you and if it interests you then to what extent have you tried doing something or applied it. Learn about the firm and division then combine everything by practicing your communication.
