Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Supporting family and executors with funeral arrangements including booking crematoriums, churches, burials and all items required for the funeral as well as supporting with wishes for cremated remains and masonry. All administrative duties relating to the funeral, and looking after the deceased while in the Chapel of rest. Also includes supporting with enquiries on funeral plans, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and appearance of the branch and community engagement.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Through the apprenticeship I have learnt more around the role including models of grief to better support clients. The studies have helped with personal development and growth and better explain the differences surrounding legal and governance.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It's very well organised with lots of structure.
Some initial teething problems with allocating workshops, and the break out rooms online are a bit strange but overall very good.
As most of it takes place online it maybe more beneficial to have some workshops in person.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer allows me additional time outside of usual work hours to focus on the apprenticeship if needed. A lot of the learning during work hours is self driven.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is a lot of support provided by my tutor and the online modules are useful to go through and look back on.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it's really important and adds value to personal growth, the general feeling about the role and ability to do it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

On occasion something may arise but most activities when organised are self led and community based. The company lacks social activities within the team.

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is room for improvement and it takes a long time to get to grips with the work and it can be a lonely job sometimes but once there is an understanding of the job and support from the team its a rewarding job. I can only speak for my branch in this area. It feels at times like the Coop do try and take on board feedback and address it which is positive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
The role is complex and at times very difficult. There's a lot to learn both client facing and administratively. No one day is the same, it's unpredictable and you cannot always rely on others for support in the team since the team is spread out over multiple locations. However, if you're prepared to learn, are self driven, and work to be part of the team in a more remote sense then you'll reap the rewards of a fullfilling role realising people's final wishes and supporting those going through grief.
