Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Throughout the degree apprenticeship we go through workplace rotations and so will spend around 6 months in each rotation for the first 2 years before choosing a job role and team to stick with for the rest. I work in an electronics team which involves designing, testing and collaborating with the basic electronics in upcoming Dyson projects. It also involves using different specialised software to design PCBs and test what would work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy this programme. The balance of work days to study days makes it easier to stay interested in both and the team's are very supportive of each other. The programme surpassed my expectations due to how understanding the workplace teams are about our studies and are very considerate when it get's closer to exam season.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt countless new skills since coming to Dyson. From transferable skills such as professional communication and working in a team to hands on work with machines- there is no shortage in new skills that have been developed. Also learning to use new software for designing and testing as well as using that for academic studies- there is no shortage of support.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structures well as all the appropriate training and induction is provided before properly starting the course and each workplace rotation. There is study leave from the workplace before each set of exams which makes it easier to keep on top of workloads and the expectations are reasonable.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The team and staff here are very supportive and willing to help with any issues that may arise. Provided with a competent line manager and technical mentor that will share all their knowledge with you and point you in the direction of others who can help with whatever you need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There are multiple apprenticeship days throughout the year which helps us log our work and skills developed towards the end point assessment. Student support advisors are provided to help with goals and guidance with problems. Apprenticeship manager and lecturers are there for all aspects of this programme which makes it very a very supportive atmosphere.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Everything that is learnt along the way is helpful and relevant. Content that is learnt in lectures is applied in the workplace and skills that are learnt in the workplace helps with academic study. Knowledge about the industry has grown immensely and everything provided helps to become a well rounded engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a variety of company events and activities that take place over the year. There are sports and social clubs within the institute and the wider company that you can join however, there are also wider sports clubs and others in the surrounding area which can help to relax and get out of the work atmosphere.
