My role at KPMG involves working as part of audit teams within the firm to complete the audit to a high standard. As an apprentice you gain a huge amount of experience working in audit as well as completing the AAT qualifications to help fast track your career. I have worked on multiple sections of the audit including revenue testing, cash testing, final analytics and much more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really enjoying my apprenticeship and I am happy with my choice to complete it rather than going to university. I think working alongside studying has allowed me to maximise my potential and gain huge amounts of invaluable experience. So far there has been nothing I haven't enjoyed on the programme.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my skills in using spreadsheets and the audit software used by the company. This has been extremely beneficial in allowing me to complete my work quickly and more easily. I have also developed my communication skills a lot since I started my apprenticeship due to dealing with clients and a wide range of colleagues.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured and easy to understand. All of the dates we will be doing tuition have been given to us in advance to allow us to plan our time around working and studying. This means you know when you will need to spend your free time studying more rather than planning lots of social activities for then.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have a great support network around us while working at KPMG. We have access to support in mental health, the job, personal issues etc. There is always someone to turn to if you have a question you need to ask or if you need support and guidance. The A-Z portal is a good place to find advice on how to get support when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive good amounts of support from our training provider. After we complete the tuition, if we have any questions while studying it on our own then we can get in contact with them and ask them to explain it. They always get back to you in a timely manner and usually provide extremely helpful explanations.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think the qualifications we get through completing our apprenticeship allow us to have a better understanding of the work we are doing on a day to day basis. The work we do involves a lot of accounts belonging to the business, therefore it is extremely helpful to have knowledge of how the business has completed their accounts.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

All of the offices at KPMG usually have balls and other social events which staff can get involved in. There are also clubs you can join if you have an interest in the activity, such as running clubs. There are opportunities to network at social events arranged by the firm. I found taking part in the NextGen leadership programme helped me to network with people more senior to me in the company.

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think this is a good career choice and it allows you to work alongside studying while earning and gaining valuable experience. You also get experience with a Big 4 firm which is highly respected if you ever chose to move to another company. For me personally, i feel this was the right choice over going to university.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Research the company and the role and have good knowledge on it so you understand what you are signing up for. It will also give you an advantage in the interviews as you will have a lot to talk about and understand what your talking about. Spend time on your application if you are passionate about the role and do your best.
