Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Delivering training for new Postmasters and staff working in a Post Office.
This also includes the recruitment of delegates for course though communicating with stakeholders, administering the course details and ensuring full end to end journey for learners.
Training is delivered in a face-to-face environment using specialist IT equipment as well as delivering training off-site for those who require this.
I am also continuously involved in CPD for myself and others, ensuring a continuing program of development.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy learning and the course has been really stimulating. Some of the administration of the course has been a little frustrating with a new system being introduced with my learning cohort. The support from the course leader has been essential in navigating the system as well as applying the learning to my own specific needs and desired outcomes.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Delivery skills have improved in multiple ways.
This includes managing course expectations and setting the tone. Through using existing course material, but adding in a more detailed control and narrative to the delivery, learners have been able to respond more effectively to the demands of the course. This includes expectations around content, timings and ongoing support.
I've also learned more about learning theory covering knowledge loss, learning styles, social dynamics and learning transfer.
While not directly practiced in my core role, I have learned about pre-course theory too. This covers Learning Needs Analysis, remote training solutions, looking at return on investment and measuring impact.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course structure is well designed. Some details have needed improvement, and I have already seen how feedback has been enacted to improve the experience for the next cohort, who joined 3 months after I started. This quick response to feedback is impressive.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

In allowing time for study, as well as encouraging discussions with colleagues has been excellent. I have also been encouraged and praised for bringing my learning back to the team for all to benefit from. This application of my studies is motivating and rewarding as it helps me to see a direct impact from my learning. It's also enabling me to support the development of my colleagues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

This has been through 121 discussions as well as group and pre-arranged activities. I've felt that [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been on hand to give guidance and encouragement when needed. This has been essential as some of the course admin on the new system has needed this extra touch. There certainly could have been more pre-course support to help with basic navigation and expectations. This feedback has already been acted upon to improve for the next cohort of learners.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Massively! I feel my mind developing as I learn new theory. Then through direct application in my day to day job I know that what I'm delivering is of a higher standard. This is also reflected in the feedback received from learners who give outstanding compliments about the quality of training. Some of this is due to the high quality of course design, though I also recognise ways I've improved on my delivery as a result of undertaking this apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are some, but few. Because my role is not based in a geographically close team, these activities are harder to get involved in. I know there are sports teams set up in some of the central support location but these are not applicable to me in my current role.

Would you recommend Post Office to a friend?

Why?
The company culture is excellent, offering support to achieve and trying to ensure excellent satisfaction for employees. We are in a very lively market where there is lots to stimulate you. For career progression, there are many avenues to explore and opportunities to progress. I feel this is encouraged and supported well by policy and people who want the best for the business and understand that this is achieved through supporting the employees.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Post Office?
Be sure to prepare and plan when and how to complete the expected work. This includes the Off the Job hours as well as assignments and learning modules. Also consider the breadth of the content and see how you can work your job role to gain experience and opportunities to apply the learning in a real working context.
