Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a rotational program, where I complete 6 month rotations in different HR Functions (e.g. Reward or Performance). I begin on a Level 3 apprenticeship and then progress onto Level 5 before rolling off into a full-time position.
Day-to-day role will vary depending on the team I am in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am thoroughly enjoying my program and UBS. The culture is great, people are so willing to help, and you are treated like an equal. Fresh perspectives are always welcomed and people really want you to succeed. The apprenticeship side (i.e. off-job hours and studies) can sometimes be challenging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Despite only being 7 months into my program, I've learnt so much. Some of these skills include: effective communication (written, verbally & with colleagues overseas), Excel, using HR data and systems, teamwork, attention to detail, working confidentially, developing sensitivity to others, presenting etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well. I am given 1 day a week for my studies which I find very manageable (i.e. work very rarely spills into the weekend). I have a course map which provides me with a good overview of my program and where I am at.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support has been fantastic! I have a very supportive line manager as well as
a mentor within UBS and a learning coach with my apprenticeship provider who arrange regular meetings to check my progress. With my rotation manager, I typically have 1:1 meetings on a weekly basis.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Support is good - I have a Learning Coach who I meet with every 4-6 weeks. We discuss my progress and any challenges I may be facing. I also have tutors that I can contact if I am struggling with the academic/course content.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The learning is very tailored towards retail sectors, so occasionally feels a little less relevant to my work/industry. The tasks are also very project focused which isn't always applicable to the teams I am in. However, I have gained new learnings from the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have many employee networks and clubs (e.g. netball, book clubs etc) to get involved in. There are always networking lunches and events going on as well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A successful and reputable institution which genuinely cares and values its employees, particularly juniors. I feel respected and I am always encouraged to do the best I can. The career prospects are also good and I feel proud to work here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Research - use the UBS website to find out more and pick out key initiatives/projects that you connect to the most. Look at UBS' "3 keys" and think about how you also embody those values. Keep up to date with the news and financial industry too!
