Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My day to day work is always varied, by nature of this programme which is rotational in design. Some placements I am working in assurance, other times I am focused on Tax, and indeed the wider work placements seen at KPMG. The work is varied and is usually client facing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the experience on the whole. Some jobs are quite challenging - -perhaps because the client is difficult, or because the working hours are lengthy. This something seen across most placements, but at other times for example the summer, the clients worked on are less strenuous and worklife balance much more managable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The main skills I have developed are professional, and how to conduct myself in business affairs and circumstances. I have improved my business writing, and am more confident in meetings and completing project work. These are key skills which I need to show throughout my day job, and have enjoyed developing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I cant fault how the programme is structured, there is a lot of variety and this is something I (and many of my colleagues) really enjoy about the programme. We get support when we need it, and there is a lot of internal training and learning opportunities, which are mandatory or voluntary
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive good support, mostly from the teams I work with. I have a central support contact who i speak with monthly for my general wellbeing and to discuss any issues. There is a lot of extra curricular and club activity which i have the option to get involved with also, and better balance my commitments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support given is generally OK. I have all my training materials provided to me and learning and passing exams is a key part to the job, and vital to progress. So this is something the firm seems to monitor and they are keen we progress and pass exams first time around!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification really helps, and i am excited that going forward it is a gold standard in the industry and should open doors for me if I move on from the firm. The qualification is demanding and I need to concentrate fully on exams, but the set up allows me to do this without needing to worry about client work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes as I mentioned before there are extra activities to get involved with. The company recognises things like religious holidays and D&I occasions, and comms go out to celebrate these. I enjoyed the christmas celebrations which was fun coming after lockdowns before. I have not signed up to any clubs as yet.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes I would recommend KPMG. The office is large and based in a big central location, out at london canada water - which is full of big businesses and feels very corporate, I think you either embrace this and enjoy the vibe (but others may find it intimidating maybe). The firm is a good employer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
I would say it is good to apply and try your best. I applied to a few firms and had some knock backs, but i learnt from these and carried on. Sooner or later things can work out. It helped me to follow the kpmg social media and ask questions to understand more when you need to. Good luck to anyone else applying
